(4/23/2012) The Crooked Road The Crooked Road Youth Music Festival Announced Abingdon, Va. (April 20, 2012) - The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail proudly presents a Youth Music Festival on Saturday, May 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Heartwood: Southwest Virginia's Artisan Gateway. Festival highlights include music performances and workshops, luthier exhibits, and foods from throughout the Crooked Road region. The Crooked Road Youth Music Festival features performances and workshops on three stages by Southwest Virginia artists including Dale Jett & Hello Stranger, The New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters, Wolfe Bros. String Band, Tina Liza Jones, Fifthstring, Adam McPeak & Mountain Thunder, and more! Youth performers from Southwest Virginia will be highlighted in performances throughout the day. "One of the most rewarding aspects of this program is presenting the youth talent of the region", said Jonathan Romeo, Program Manager for The Crooked Road's Traditional Music Education Program initiative. "The level of youth talent in this region is astounding, and these young performers are tremendous ambassadors for the traditional music of their home communities. The Crooked Road Youth Festival provides a showcase for the region's talented youth performers alongside our outstanding professional musicians." Heartwood: Southwest Virginia's Artisan Gateway is located off I-81 at Exit 14 in Abingdon, Virginia, and features shopping for craft, dining on local foods, and opportunities to hear the traditional music of Southwest Virginia. Sound and lights will be provided by the Lonesome Pine Office on Youth's Have Sound Will Travel - a job training program through the Appalachian Regional Commission. The Crooked Road Youth Music Festival is sponsored by Heartwood, the Appalachian Regional Commission, Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission, Young Audiences of Virginia, Abingdon Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
